Come and explore the rare chalk grassland on Hawkshill Freedown, Walmer

Walmer Parish Council is pleased to be able to offer a walk and talk for adults this Sunday 16 July. Local Flora expert Eddie Turner monitors the area on behalf of the Council and will lead the walk. Eddie explains, “Hawksdown is home to a variety of typical chalk grassland species including Salad burnet, Kidney vetch, Small scabious and Squinancywort. It is important that the site is monitored to detect any deterioration and, where necessary, take action to preserve the area for the future.”

There is no charge for the walk but those interested should meet at the car park at the junction of Liverpool Road and Grams Road just before 10 am and wear suitable footwear for uneven ground. The walk will last approximately 2 hours covering no more than one mile. Please contact the Parish Office on 01304 362363 for more details.
